Zion National Park

Zion National Park

Zion National Park is host to some of the most scenic canyon country in the United States. Contained within its borders are high plateaus, a maze of narrow, deep, sandstone canyons, and the Virgin River and its tributaries. The Virgin River has carved its way into the desert can created a gorge so deep and narrow that sunlight rarely penetrates to the bottom. As the canyon widens, the river runs through slick-rock peaks and hanging valleys. Zion also hasĀ  waterfalls supporting lush and colorful hanging gardens.

The highlight of Zion National Park is an expansive canyon. With an average of 2,000 feet deep, Zion Canyon offers hiking opportunities along its bottom in the 20 to 30 foot wide area known as The Narrows and the challenging area known as The Subway. Swimming is also permitted in this area of the Virgin River.

Other spectacular features of Zion include The Watchmen, Angel’s Landing, Emerald Pools, the Crawford and Kolob arches, Court of the Patriarchs, and Temple of Sinawava.
